Van Tornhout Acquires Club Against Freiburg

The center back played just seven times for Palermo this season and could make his return to France permanent when the loan expires this summer.

 

Berlin, Germany (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Hertha Berlin added defender Felix Bastians from Freiburg and signed defender Christian Lell to a contract extension, with both players inking contracts through the summer of 2016. Bastians, 23, played for Germany at various youth levels. He spent time in the youth systems of Borussia Dortmund and Nottingham Forest, where he first broke into the senior team in 2005.

 

Lell, 27, joined Hertha from Bayern Munich two years ago and previously agreed to extend his stay with the club, but has now officially signed a new deal.

 

The French-born Gassama played for France at the Under-21 level, but has spent his senior career with Senegal, making two appearances for the country so far this year.

 

Kilmarnock, Scotland (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Kilmarnock signed Belgian striker Dieter van Tornhout from Cyprus side Nea Salamis on Thursday on a deal through the summer of 2013. Van Tornhout, 26, becomes the fourth winter signing for Killie, who previously added defender Ben Gordon from Chelsea, defender Michael Nelson from Scunthorpe and midfielder Dean Shiels, the son of manager Kenny Shiels, from Doncaster Rovers.

 

Van Tornhout has also played for Club Brugge in Belgium, Sparta and Roda in the Netherlands, and Cypriot side Enosis Neon Paralimni.

 

San Jose, CA (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - The San Jose Earthquakes signed forward Sercan Guvenisik on Thursday, pending receipt of his P-1 visa. Guvenisik, 31, comes to MLS from SC Preussen Muenster of the Bundesliga 3. He scored 14 goals in 56 league matches after returning for his second stint with the club in 2010.

 

Guvenisik also played there in 2005-06, while previously playing for Paderborn 07, Rot-Weiss Essen, Carl Zeiss Jena, SC Feucht, and Duisburg in Germany. He played six times for Duisburg in the Bundesliga, Germany's top division.

 

Per league and team policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.

 

San Jose, CA (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - The San Jose Earthquakes signed goalkeeper Jon Busch to a new contract Thursday. Busch, 35, joined the Earthquakes in March of 2010 and has 14 shutouts - seven in each of his two seasons - for the squad. He started 33 of 34 regular-season matches last year.

 

Capped one time for the U.S. national team, Busch has a 74-61-60 record and 60 shutouts in his MLS career.

 

He has yet to play this season following a right knee injury, but passed his physical with Vallecano and has already trained with the club.

 

The 1998 World Cup and 2000 Euro champions open the 2012 Euro finals against England on June 11, and play Ukraine and Sweden in their other Group D games.
