08/10/2008 - Wichita, KS (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Scott Piercy managed just an even-par 71 in the final round Sunday, but it was enough for a two-stroke win at the Wichita Open.
Piercy and five other players completed their third rounds earlier in the day after play was called Saturday due to inclement weather.
The 29-year-old Piercy completed his first Nationwide Tour win at 22-under-par 262. That score was a new tournament record total bettering the 263 Ben Crane posted in 2000.
"It could be worth more than that," said Piercy, of the $2 million he won in the Ultimate Game last year. "Getting my tour card is worth a lot more than $2 million. Hopefully, I'm on my way."
Spencer Levin birdied the 18th hole to post a four-under 67. He was joined in second place by Hunter Haas (70) and Daniel Summerhays (67).
Piercy, Haas, Summerhays, Chris Anderson, Levin and Aaron Watkins were the six players that completed the third round on Sunday morning.
Piercy returned to the course later Sunday morning and struggled through the front nine. He opened with a bogey on the first, then parred the next five holes.
He stumbled to another bogey on the par-four seventh to slip to 20-under. However, no one was challenging his lead.
Piercy recovered one stroke with a birdie on the par-five 14th. He parred the next two, while Haas and Summerhays both made late runs to get within one of the lead.
At the par-three 17th, Piercy rolled home a 20-foot birdie putt to move back to 22-under. With a two-shot lead on the 18th, Piercy calmly made par to secure the win.
Summerhays, who won the Children's Hospital Invitational last year as an amateur, parred the first 10 holes. He birdied the 11th, then ran off three birdies in a four-hole span from the 14th to jump to 20-under.
However, he could only par the last to share second.
"Maybe I don't know how to play the front side properly," joked Summerhays.
Haas, who was in the last group with Piercy, posted seven pars and two bogeys on the front nine. He fought back into the mix with birdies on 14 and 17. He also birdied the last to finish at 20-under.
Levin, who was the other player in the final group, was even-par through nine holes with a birdie, a bogey and seven pars. He drained back-to-back birdies from the 10th to move to 18-under.
The 24-year-old continued his climb up the leaderboard with a birdie on the par-five 14th. He birdied 17 from 45 feet out to get within one of Piercy, but Piercy matched that birdie, then Levin could only par the last to end two back.
"Spencer made that putt -- a bomb -- it was a huge putt for him," said Piercy. "For me to make it on top of him, it takes all the wind from his sails. To make that at that time, you can't ask for anything more."
Brendon De Jonge took fifth place at 18-under-par 266 after a final-round, three-under 68. Chris Anderson was one stroke back at minus-17 after a final-round 70.
Bob May, Brian Smock, Fabian Gomez and Won Joon Lee shared seventh place at 16-under-par 268.
